SSI Freediver Upgrade Course

Get Ready for Open Water with the SSI Freediver Upgrade!

If you have already completed an SSI Basic Freediver course (even with another dive school) or a pool course from another agency, you can enhance your open-water skills with the SSI Freediver Upgrade. After successful completion and meeting all requirements, you will be certified as an SSI Freediver.

Preparation and Requirements

Please contact us in advance to ensure that you meet all the prerequisites for the SSI Freediver Upgrade. If your SSI Basic Freediver course was more than 6 months ago, we recommend the SSI Freediver course to refresh your theory and pool skills.

Course Goal

The course aims to teach you the skills for Free Immersion (descending along a rope) and Constant Weight (descending with bi-fins) in open water, down to a depth of 16 meters. You will also learn how to safely assist other freedivers in open water and respond correctly in emergencies.

Requirements

• SSI Basic Freediver certificate or an equivalent certification from another agency (e.g., PADI Basic Freediver), not older than 6 months
• Minimum age of 12 years
• Adequate swimming ability and good health
• No prior experience in snorkeling, scuba diving, or freediving required

Required Equipment

• Swimwear (women: bikini or swimsuit; men: swim trunks, ideally Speedos)
• Beach towel
• Open-cell freediving wetsuit (included in the course fee)
• Low-volume mask, snorkel, flexible weight belt, coated lead weights (all included in the course fee)
• Neoprene socks (included in the course fee and can be kept after the course)
• Freediving fins, dive computer, lanyard (all included in the course fee)
• Lanyard

All required freediving equipment is included in the course fee. Meals and drinks are also provided, so you can fully focus on your training. We believe that the true freediving experience can only be felt with the right equipment. No hidden costs, no surprises! If you wish, you can purchase your own equipment at a fair price after the course and start training immediately.
